"Best of Shell" dog show... Clayton Connolly spoke spoke of a need for a Beneficiary to make it "legit"....SBIG members directed him to apply to the city's "Special Events" group
Stephen Stern (local attorney) and other Shell Beach dog lovers and residents solicited support for daily "off leash" hours at local parks (2 hours after sunrise and 2 hours before sunset). Marilee Hymandirected that the group DOGMA (Dog Owners Get More Access) request Parks and recreation for a change in the leash ordinance using Avila Beach as a model. There was also concern for self policing if there is an "off leash" component within the city.
New Business:
Trash cans...There is money for 2 trash cans at $1500.00 each. Placement was discussed... Shell Beach Rd. at the corners of Esparto, Montecito, Boeker, and Palisade. different types of trash cans were discussed especially those that could be "dressed-up".
It was suggested by Charlene West that we decorate the trash cans like Morro Bay. Paul aand Charlene will look into checking with other cities in SLO County and SB county for trashcans that could be recycled and "dressed up". It was also seen as necessary that there would be a strong recycling program with the use of recycling recepticles and education of the whole community that it is everyone's responsibility to recycle. It was suggested that jeff Heiser be contacted.
Mutt Mitts:
There are 8 locations for Mutt Mitts...we need to prioritize and try for 4.
Logistics and maintenance will be discussed with the city...Paul
Specific Plan:
Laurie and Paul worked with City Council and staff on streetscapes. At a palnning commssion meeting Paul requested that SBIG be involved in the entire process from the interviewing of possible consultants to planning and implementation. SBIG motioned, seconded, discussed, and approved that Paul and Laurie be on the committee which interviews possible consultant candidates. RRM design is willing to donate service and materials for presentations. The Request for Proposal (RFP) delivery and enaction
requires about 9 months...if a consultant is selected in September, starts work in January, begins public workshops with a final workshhop in April the plan can be presented to Council by May. The need for the community and SBIG to be involved and creative was emphasized.
