January 14, 2008

Meeting called to order at 5:29 by Paul Schiro.
Introductions
Bill & Meg Pardini were introduced and welcomed
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the December 10, 2007 meeting were amended to add “Katchy, Laurie & Charlene have been working on trashcan issue” under New Business. Amended minutes were approved. Agenda was approved with change of postponing “Grant and Donations” to February meeting.
Treasurer's Report
Current balance is $915.16. $216.59 was paid for banner and newsletter. Membership dues are now due and payable at $25 per family and $50 per business. Discussion on collection and due date of dues. Brian Kreowski moved that discussion be tabled and brought back to February meeting. Motion seconded by Marilee Hyman. Motion passed.
Announcements:
Marilee Hyman noted that South County has no representative for upcoming RideShare/SCAT meeting dealing with the needs of seniors. Shelly Higgenbotham said that issue should be brought to City Council meeting. She is on SCAT board and could provide information and a status report at a later SBIG meeting.
Neighborhood Watch
Paul reported that he still has not heard back from Commander Jake Miller to discuss program. Brian discussed background history of this issue and Safe Place program. Marilee suggested that the police could suggest place to post “ Safe Place ” signs for children. Katchy suggested checking with the PTO of SB Elementary School for their support. Shelly said to draft a letter to the City Council delineating exactly what we want and CCing Chief Cortez. Paul will draft letter.
Newsletter
Susie was commended for her good work. It was filled with good information.
Old Business:
Refuse and recycle cans-
Paul has pressure washer. Asked if we want ashcans too. Brian spoke to artist Jon Landon about decorating can. He had specific notions of what he wanted to do. Dave Jewell suggested we compile a list of artists, see if they are interested and what they would do. Brian moved that we set a firm clean-up date and have a list of artists at the February meeting. Seconded by Katchy. Motion passed.
New Business:
Town Hall Meeting- January 23, 2008
Teresa McClish thanked Laurie Commings for her work on the “Special Invitation” to the workshops. For workshop, she needs volunteers for: refreshments, greeters, to pass out info, note keeper, set-up and clean-up. Volunteers immediately signed up. She wants those more knowledgeable with process to disperse themselves among the groups. Consultants now have the survey information and have discussed it in order to establish constraints. They will lead the workshop. Paul will make introductory remarks about SBIG, introduce our councilperson, Shelly Higginbotham who in turn will introduce consultants. Paul would like David Foote, one of the consultants, to contact him prior to the workshop. Rick Turton questioned our role in the process. He added that it is our responsibility to sell the ideas from the workshop and the uniqueness of our area to the community. Discussion. Laurie emphasized that we want community input, “It's not just us”. It was moved to have a second SBIG meeting in February, on February 25, in addition to regular February 11 meeting. Motion seconded by Dotte. Motion passed. Katchy will make reminder post card announcing meeting to be passed out at first workshop. Marilee moved that February 25 th meeting include a representative of design consultants and be dedicated entirely to workshop. Seconded. Discussion-community would be invited, it would be a debriefing meeting in order to process the information from first workshop. Motion passed. We must keep in mind that top priority is undergrounding of utilities. Shelly reminded us that we are “on the list” though nothing will happen before 2009. Ted Ehring and Rick noted that engineering requires 5 years.

Katchy passed around letter from woman in Seattle who wanted people to write Planning Commission regarding traffic situation on SB Road .
Marilee noted that pismobeach.com has added a feature where one can ask a question or express a concern, which is given a number and responded to as soon as possible.
Next meeting is February 11, 2008 at 5:30 in the Shell Beach Vet's Hall
