Thanks to all of you who attended our Community Meeting, Monday, February 9, 2009 at the Shell Beach Veteran's Building!

This was final community workshop for public input regarding the options for the Streetscape Plan before presentation to the Pismo Beach City Council early this year. David Foote FIRMA principal engineer, presented the possible options, and answered questions from the audience.

The following information is from the Santa Maria Times, February 15:

"What we are trying to do is balance access (for emergency vehicles) with a calm, village atmosphere," said David Foote, FIRMA principal engineer. At the meeting, Foote unveiled a new preliminary proposal for the streetscape plan that includes an eight-foot wide multi-use path along the Caltrans right-of-way on east side of Shell Beach Road. The path would allow for more landscaping along Shell Beach Road and give the community more of a buffer between Shell Beach Village and Highway 101, Foote said. "It would be suited to recreational users, pedestrians and kids going to school."

Pismo Beach could apply for federal grant money through the $48 million Safe Routes to School program to fund the path's construction, according to San Luis Obispo Council of Governments representatives.

A cost-estimate for construction of the proposed multi-use path, which about three-quarters of the audience favored, hasn't been done yet, Foote said.

He added, if a streetscape master plan is eventually approved and funded by the City Council, it would likely be constructed in one-block segments from Vista Del Mar to Cliff Avenue at a cost of about $60,000 a block.
